7th March Home Asfordby Village Won 2-0

18th Oct Away Asfordby Village Won 2-1

This was our 13th League game and some say 13 is unlucky for some and so it was for Asfordby with the strong wind behind them they were dominating the game hitting the woodwork at least three times we had a couple of good chances go begging but the half was all about Asfordbys bad luck and we were pleased to go in at the break all level

It was our turn to try and capitalise on the windy conditions and it only took five minutes for us to be rewarded with a 65 yard shot by Ross Locker that found their keeper in no man's land and the ball bounced over him and ran on into an empty net. From then on there was only one team in it as we were camped out in their half, and was rewarded in the 70th minute when Paul Gunn beat their keeper with a powerful header from a Ross Locker corner we should have scored quite a few more in the last 20 minutes but the referee eventually blew the whistle and we were quite happy to come away with a 2-0 win

Falcons were coming into this game against Asfordby Village with plenty of confidence on the back of 3 wins in a row. We all knew this week was going to be a tough game against a very experienced & physical team. Falcons had to make a few changes to the team with a couple of key players missing.

Falcons started brightly with some intricate passing mostly going thru Ross Locker & Matt Bishop. A great corner from Ross Locker was met by Paul Gunn as he rose above the defenders to head for goal only to have the ball cleared off the line. Asfordby started to get back into the game with some good wing play & plenty of hard work off the ball. This didn’t deter Falcons though as they continued to play good football mixed in with some good old fashioned ‘up & unders’. Danny Bowes & Paul Gunn were giving the Asfordby defenders a torrid time hassling tackling & forcing errors. Paul Gunn had a great chance to score when 1:1 with the keeper only for the keeper to make a great save diving at his feet to snatch the ball away. Adam Barrigan had a good chance to net from 20 yards only for the ball to go past the post by a foot or so. With 15 minutes to go before half time Asfordby were awarded a penalty after a Falcons player pulled back the striker when he was thru on goal. Luckily defenders were covering & the referee kept his cards in his pocket. The Asfordby player duly converted the penalty to give Asfordby a 1-0 lead. Jack Richardson was booked for what we all thought was a good tackle just before the referee blew for the half time whistle.

The game restarted in much the same way it ended for half time with some pacy , tidy football & plenty of tasty tackles from both sides. Falcons however were definitely having the majority of possession & it wasn’t long before the game was level. Ross Locker swung a great cross into the box for Gunny to flick towards goal the keeper made a great save but could only turn into the path of Danny Bowes who tucked the ball into the net from all of 3 yards. The score was now 1-1 & to be honest Falcons were the only team looking likely to score the winner. For the next 25 minutes most of the play was concentrated on the midfield area, the occasional trick & cheeky pass from Matt Bishop the highlight of that period. The game came to life again when Paul Gunn had the ball in the net to give Falcons the lead. A free kick from the left hand side was curled to the back post by Ross Locker where Jack Richardson amazingly headed the ball back across goal when at full stretch straight into the path of Gunny who powerfully headed the ball past the goal keeper to make it 2-1 to Falcons. Falcons continued to control the game for the remainder of the second half without too much pressure from Asfordby. They ran, tackled moaned & generally made a nuisance of themselves but the game was always under control after the second goal went in. The referee blew his whistle to the joy of the Falcons players & supporters. A very well deserved & hard earned 3 points today against an Asforby side that may surprise a few team this season. Next week we are away at Whitwick Wanderers in the Cobbin Trophy KO 13:30.

1st Nov Home East Leake Ath Won 4-1

24th April Away East Leake Ath  Won 5-0

Falcons were level on points with East Leake Athletic at the top of Division 1 of the NLFL before today’s game kicked off. We had heard good reports about ELA so were anticipating a tough game. This being on a day when the wind was always going to play a part as it was blowing with a good degree of force straight down the pitch.

It didn’t take Falcons long to start playing some very good passing football of which Ross Locker was playing a major part with some quality passing & crossing into the box. East Leake rode the early onslaught pretty well & were intent on causing as much damage with the wind behind them as they could. The East Leake No6 on the left hand side was giving us plenty of problems for the first 20 minutes until he picked up a knock following a very hard but fair tackle from Simeon Thomas. Unfortunately he had already played a part in giving East Leake the lead after 15 minutes with a good ball over the top of the Falcons defence putting the striker through on goal where he finished sublimely by chipping the ball over the Falcons keeper to give ELA the lead. This definitely shocked Falcons into action & with 5 minutes remaining of the half Phil McHale sped past 2 defenders & smashed the ball home from a tight angle to level the scores @ 1-1. Falcons had a couple more half chances before half time but couldn’t convert any of them so we went into the break all square.

With the wind behind Falcons for the second half we were always confident of adding to the scoreline. Falcons continued to play attractive passing football despite the temptation to play the wind assisted long ball. This paid off 5 minutes into the 2nd half when a quality Ross Locker free kick was smashed in on the turn by Simeon Thomas at the back post to make the score 2-1 to Falcons. A few minutes later & the score was 3-1 to Falcons when a cross from the right was met by the well timed run of Adam Barrigan who gave the keeper no chance with a great header. Falcons made a couple of substitutions to give a few lads a good 25 minutes or so. Dave Pitchford made an immediate impact with some good wing play & some slick passes. Simeon Thomas moved to centre forward, where he added to his tally within a few minutes finishing well from just inside the box after a great through ball from midfield 4-1 to Falcons. The game continued in much the same fashion for the next 10 minutes when the referee blew his whistle to end the game. All 3 points went to Falcons in very difficult circumstances where East Leake Athletic certainly played their part in a very entertaining game. M.O.M went to Phil McHale for a truly immense all round display of Centre Forward play. Next Week we are at Home in the 2nd round of the county cup KO 13:30.

As we have already won Division One and this our last game of the season we were just out to enjoy it ,but on the other hand if East Leake won all their remaining games they would end runners up so we expected them to come out with all guns blazing , but how wrong we were as East Leake never got off the starting block and we dominated this game right from the start and in the 25th minute we took lead through some good play down the right and an inch-perfect cross which found Danny Boyes who easily tapped in to give us a 1-0 lead, we created a few more chances but could not capitalise on them and with East Leake resorting to the long-ball game which we dealt with with no problems at all we went in at the break 1-0 up

We definitely thought East Leake would come out in the second half and make a game of it but again we totally dominated it and added four more goals with Danny Bowes getting his second Deon Zollino Andy Gunn and a superb free-kick by Sam Hogg to make the final score 5-1 and end East Leakes chances of gaining the runners-up

21st April  Home Whitwick Wanderers Draw1-1

30th Nov Away Whitwick Wanderers Won 3-0

With us being crowned Division One champions last Saturday means there is no pressure on us in our last two games and we can just go out and enjoy them

With five of our main squad out and just being able to field the bear 11 we would be up against it with runners-up contenders WhitwickWanderers but the nerves must have got to Whitwick as they resorted into the long-ball game which we dealt with quite easily, neither team were creating that many clear-cut chances but whitwick were rewarded a penalty just before the break which they had no hesitation to convert it and we went in at the break 1-0 down.

The second half was the same as the first with Whitwick just banging the ball down the pitch hoping for the best but without success and as the game went on they started to defend deeper and deeper to protect their 1-0 lead and in doing that we started putting them under pressure and we could have had a couple of goals had it not been through some brilliant saves from their keeper but in the last few minutes a good move down our left and a brilliant cross by Gareth Mills which Paul Gunn met on the volley to power the ball into Whitwick net for the equaliser

17th Jan  Home Charnwood Old Boy Won 8-1

28th Mar Away Charnwood Old Boy Won 10-3

This was our first game for four weeks owing to the Christmas break and bad weather so we were all raring to go and hopefully carry on where we left had off before Christmas.

We came out of the block's at full pelt and played some good passing football on a very muddy pitch and soon started to create some good chances but it was Charnwood who had two nail on chances that they squandered but it was only going to be a matter of time before we broke through their defence and this we did after 18 minutes, a good through ball down the middle of the park found Danny Bowes one-on-one with their centre half and he just brushed him aside and went on to slide the ball past their advancing keeper, five minutes later a good move down our right and across to the far post found Deon Zollino who no hesitation to rifle the ball into the net 2-0, we were all over them now and should have added two or three more to the scoreline but we had to wait just before half-time before Danny Bowes got his second to take us into the break 3-0 up.

We went out for the second half full of confidence that we could go go on and probably get a cricket score but surprise surprise after five minutes it was Charnwood who pulled a goal back through a own goal, but within minutes we started to find the net again and with Phil McHale and Danny Bowes going on to complete their hat-tricks and Ross Locker chipping with a fine lob over their advancing keeper to make the final score 8-1.

We came off quite happy with an 8-1 win after a lengthy 4 week break but the scoreline does not reflect on how we dominated this game especially the second half and the score could have easily been well in to double figures

Having lossed our last league game against promotion rivals Markfield we were determined to get back into winning ways against strugglers Charnwood Old Boys and we couldn't have asked for a better start with Danny Bowes scoring twice within the first five minutes and Paul Gunn making it three, after 15minutes we were well on top but it was Charnwood who got the next goal to make the score 3-1 but we soon got back on to the scoring trail through an own goal but again Charnwood to their credit came back to score again but just before the break Danny Parkin got on the scoresheet to make the half time score 5-2

In the second half we were completely on top even though Charnwood scored again but with Danny Bowes going on to score two more to take his tally to four and Danny Parkin completing his hat-trick and a first class volley from Matt Bishop to make the final score 10-3

11th April  Home Sutton Bonington Acar Won 2-0

21st Feb Away Sutton Bonington Acar Won 3-0

With winning the Chairmans Shield on Thursday night we were not really mentally prepared for this game but some how we managed to take the lead through a good goal from Danny Parkin after 20 minutes into the game, but from then on it was just a case of going through the motions Sutton created two or three good chances to equalise but their bad finishing denied them. The game was going nowhere but with 10 minutes to go we was awarded a corner and from it we went 2-0 up through a own goal, this was probably one of our worst performances so far this season and we hope it's the last as we have got four vital league games left and if we can win just two of them we will be Division One champions

Back to league duty this week after three successive cup matches but this game nearly didn't take place as we waited for 40 minutes after kick-off time for referee to make an appearance but in the end it was decided that the Sutton manager would take the whistle and he did an excellent job

Sutton had had a good result last week against title contenders Whitwick beating them 4-0 so we knew on the day they could be a useful team and so it was for the first 20 minutes they matched us in every department but we started to settle down and a good through-ball found Matt Bishop who went on to slide the ball past the advancing keeper to take us into a 1-0 lead this knocked Sutton back and we started to take control of the game creating some good chances but could not find the net and we went in at the break 1-0 up

We were straight out of the blocks for the second half and had Sutton under pressure with some good flowing football and it wasn't long before a good move down the right and a inch-perfect cross from Danny Parkins found the head of Phil McHale who powered the ball into Sutton's net from then it was all one way and it wasn't long for number three to come along when Danny Parkin converted a corner to give us a well deserved 3-0 victory
